Dairy Cattle
The National Milk Producers Federation, in conjunction with Dairy Management, Inc., introduced the National Dairy FARM Program to demonstrate and verify that U.S. milk producers are committed to providing the highest standards of animal care while providing quality products to consumers. The program is available to all producers and establishes an on-farm animal well-being program and third-party verification system. The program includes:

- Animal Care Checklist and Reference Guide, detailing best management practices for a variety of animal care issues including animal health from birth to end of life, facilities/housing, nutrition, transportation and handling.

- Supplemental Training Materials, including CDs and DVDs for employers and instructors.

- Third-Party Verification that protects the integrity of the program and provides quantifiable verification that producers are meeting their ethical obligations to provide care for their animals.

Because the dairy industry has various sectors, it created a National Dairy Animal Well-Being Initiative, a producer-led coalition that includes each sector of the industry, which is proposing a set of principles and guidelines intended to provide a uniform umbrella of assurance that the industry is meeting its ethical obligation for dairy animal well-being. The goal is to demonstrate dairy producers' commitment to animal well-being. www.dairywellbeing.org
