The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has created a unique certification program to demonstrate proactive food safety leadership and to increase awareness of the industry's significant role and responsibility in modern agricultural production. AFIA's Safe Feed/ Safe Food (SF/SF) Certification Program is intended to demonstrate and ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of a safe and wholesome feed supply for the growth and care of animals. It covers all aspects of industry production including ingredient purchasing, manufacturing and processing, product tracking and traceability, risk and hazard identification, facility planning, customer responsiveness and human resource training.

Participating companies include feed manufacturers, pet food manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, integrated producers, meat processors, feed purchasers, livestock producers and others who want to validate a commitment to food safety and proactive leadership.

Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification provides customers and consumers with confidence that participating feed industry companies are acting in their best interests to ensure the safety of the products they produce. SF/SF conveys a positive image generating the respect and trust of key stakeholder audiences while at the same time demonstrating a proactive commitment to food safety leadership.
